Workshop on Trends and Practices in Power System
This workshop focuses on latest trends and practices in power system protection towards enhancing the reliability of power system. On fault occurrence, the relaying parameters have to be estimated without errors to deliver a reliable trip. In this context, usage of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) and other digital algorithms will be explored. Communication Protocols for data communication between different areas of power system, importance of Wide Area Monitoring (WAM) to avoid Blackout of power system will be targeted. Effect of Distributed Generation and FACTS devices on protection schemes, operation and modifications of relay settings is being planned. Fault location identification will be discussed with the aid of artificial intelligence techniques. Case studies through simulations will be conducted in laboratory to give hands on experience for the participants.
